Elizabeth's London: Everyday Life in Elizabethan London
by Liza Picard
I recently finished this book and could not put it down. Elizabeth's London covers everything from theater and entertainment, to medicine, crime, family, education and of course, fashion. The author writes in a conversational and somewhat sarcastic tone that had me laughing out loud in parts. (I am not sure it was meant to be funny...might be just my dry sense of humor)
Elizabeth and Mary: Cousins, Rivals, Queens
by Jane Dunn
This is a must read for anyone who enjoys a good sister rivalry. I think it is often difficult to write a book comparing two people (and such opposites!) but Dunn does this magnificently. She does not favor ELizabeth nor Mary but simply reveals how their lives changed by making very different choices.
A Treasury of Royal Scandals: The Shocking True Stories History's Wickedest, Weirdest, Most Wanton Kings, Queens, Tsars, Popes, and Emperors
by Michael Farquhar
Michale Farquhar is one of my favorite authors of these type of trivia books. He has four other books covering facinating subjects in history. I would suggest this book to also young audiences and reluctant readers of history. His writing style is very humourous and he is a master at whittling the facts down to the bare essentials.
